Pony Party
Most children wish for a pony of their very own. A pony party is a great way to give them a pony for a day. Rent a pony and set up a pony ride area.
For an added touch, rent small farm animals for a petting zoo. Designate different areas in the yard for each activity. Create party stations and name
each station after children attending the party. For example, "Kathryn's Pony Rides", "Erin's Petting Zoo" or "David's Watering Hole". Signs can be made
from poster board and wooden stakes.
Make seating areas throughout the yard using bails of hay. You can purchase bails of hay from local farms and farmer's markets. In
most cases, they will even deliver them. Give each child a
sheriff's badge
and a cowboy hat.
A pony party would not be complete without a memorable photo. Using a Polaroid camera, take a photo of each child riding a pony and give it to the
child's parent as a party souvenir.
Goodie Bags
Make drawstring goodie bags out of fabric designed to look like burlap. Fill the bags with gold foil coins, cowtail candy sticks and other western
themed candy and prizes.
Another goodie bag idea is to make bags using
a red bandana. Lay
the bandana on a flat surface and put candy and treats in the center. Bring the four corners of the bandana together to create a pouch. Secure the
corners with a rubber band and attach
a sheriff's badge.
Snacks and Refreshments
Fill ice chests and western themed pails with ice and fill with water bottles and various juice boxes.
Grill hot dogs and hamburgers and serve on disposable
western themed plates.
Baked beans, potato salad and corn on the cob are great side dishes.
For the adults, serve drinks out of mason canning jars. Lemonade and iced tea are perfect for the theme.
Games
Play the gold rush game and send kids on a hunt for gold. Before the party, turn ordinary rocks into golden nuggets using metallic gold spray paint.
Hide the rocks throughout the yard. The child who finds the most 'gold' is the winner.
