Party Games
Party games are a great way to introduce guests, encourage conversation and break the ice among guests. Party games are an
interactive and exciting way to ensure guests have a great time.
When planning games consider the following:
- The size of the area the game will be played in
- Time required for playing each game
- Interest and ability of the guests to play each game
- Age and sex ratio of guests (will the majority of the guests be male, female, single or married couples)
- Choose games that will interest the guests attending your party
- Be prepared before you start playing games, ensure you have all of the materials or props
- Explain the game clearly and demonstrate if necessary
- Answer all questions before starting the game

Gather together a bunch of funny hats, hideous clothes, big shades/sunglasses and X-Large panties. Write down each of the articles
of clothes/items on a piece of paper. Specify each item and be as descriptive as possible. The more original the items the more fun
it is. Listed below are some examples:
- purple hat with zebra stripes
- leopard panties with black trim
- green robe with leopard fur collar
- large gold chain necklace
Cut the paper into individual strips, put one item in each envelope and seal the envelope. You will want to have approximately 1-2 envelopes
per guest. Have each guest roll two dice, if they roll a "7" or an "11", let them pick an envelope. After all the envelopes have been handed out,
have the guests open the envelopes and read the papers. They must wear the clothes/items in the envelope for the next hour. Some guests
will have multiple envelopes and some guests will not get an envelope. This game is a great ice breaker and guests really get into it.
Grape Ape
This is a great party game. Guests will each get about 18 grapes. Each guest will start by stuffing three grapes into his/her mouth (you cannot bite,
chew or smash the grape while it is in your mouth). Each guest must then say "Grape Ape" so that everyone can understand what they are saying.
Continue to add three grapes at a time until you have a winner. This is a hilarious game.
This game can also be played with marshmallows. Instead of saying "grape ape" guests must say "fluffy bunny".
Mini Murder Mystery
Murder Mysteries are a big hit right now, but can be complicated and time consuming. Why not host a mini murder mystery
at your next party. It's a great idea for a Halloween party. With the mini version, there are no assigned characters, no
complicated scripts to memorize and no acting required. It's also a great way to encourage guests to mix and mingle.
If the party will be a Halloween party, you could ask guests to come dressed in a costume related to the theme. Here are a few ideas for couples:
- Police Officer and A Body Bag
- Widow and Ghost of Murder Victim
- Widow and Murder Victim
- Paramedic and Murder Victim
- Criminal and Police Officer
- Nurse/Doctor and Murder Victim
Set up a mock crime scene and allow guests to examine it for clues. If the murder occurred outside, draw a chalk line with blood in the area of the
wound. if the victim was shot in the head, pour fake blood around the head area of the chalk outline. Make your own fake blood using Caro Syrup, corn starch
and red and blue food coloring. The blue will give it a hue that resembles real blood and the corn starch will make it less opaque.
Here's how it works. The person throwing the party decides in advance which party guest will be murderer. Do not tell anyone
who the murderer is, not even the person selected to be the murderer. This will give them an opportunity to play along too.
Make sure it is a guest that has RSVP'd and is reliable. It's also a good idea to have a back up, just in case your first
choice does not come to the party.
Create clues that will eliminate one or more guests as the murderer. The clues can be as specific or as vague as you would like.
The goal is to provide as many clues as possible to ensure at least one guest will guess the correct murderer, but not so obvious that
everyone guesses correctly.
Here are some sample clues:
- The murderer is a relative of the victim.
- The murder owns (or does NOT own) a pet.
- The murderer has know the victim for at least 5 years.
- The murderer has (or does NOT have) children.
- The murderer owns an American made car.
- The murderer is a man (or woman).
- The murderer has brown hair.
Clues should be given out for preforming specific tasks (arriving on time, answering trivia, trying an exotic food dish, etc) or can be hidden throughout
the party area (this works great for Halloween parties where there are spooky displays). This encourages to visit all areas of the party. Not all clues
should be revealed to all guests. The most specific clues that will eliminate a larger group of guests should be given to fewer guests.

- Voices from the Grave
Create 'Accusations Sheets' that give guests the opportunity to 'accuse' other guests of the crime. It's a great idea to have a few tie breaker questions
just in case more than one guest guesses the correct murderer. Great tie breaker questions are 'What was the motive?', 'What was the murder weapon?', and
'What was the cause of death?'.
Once the correct murder has been identified, it's a great idea to summarize the events leading to the murder. This will tie everything together and
wrap up the game.
I've Never
Everyone starts out with a set amount of pennies.
One person begins by saying "I've Never…" and then adds something they've never done, - I've never watched the movie
Titanic. Everyone who HAS watched the movie Titanic must throw one of their coins into a bowl.
Everyone must be honest. The last one with a coin wins.
Sample statements:
- I've never been to Las Vegas
- I've never been to Disney World
- I've never been skinning dipping
- I've never bungie jumped
- I've never had a one night stand
- I've never been to Mexico
Party Animals
Give each guest an index card and pen. Have the guests write the numbers 1 through 10 in a column. The host/hostess will instruct each guest to write the
name of 10 animals on the index cards (1 through 10). After each guest has written down all of their animals on the index card, the host/hostess will
read the questions (listed below). The host/hostess will ask the first question and the players must read their answers out load for what they wrote
to question #1. The host/hostess will then ask the second question and players will read their answers until all of the questions have been asked.
There is typically no winner for this game, but it's a good ice breaker.

- While making love, you are like a _______________________
- You resemble a ___________________ with your clothes off
- When you eat, you eat like a __________________________
- Your scent smells like that of a _________________________

- Your personality resembles a __________________________
- Your feet resemble a _________________________________
Match-A-Mate
When guests arrive, give each guest a slip of paper with the name of a member from a famous pair. The guest will have to find their mate to complete the
famous pair. This party game encourages guests to interact and get to know each other.
Examples:
- Tarzan - Jane
- Salt - Pepper
- Bonnie - Clyde
- Fred - Wilma
- Laurel - Hardy
- Peanut Butter - Jelly
Frozen T-Shirt
For each player you'll need one t-shirt and one plastic zip lock bag. Place one neatly folded t-shirt in each bag and pour in approximately 2 cups of water.
Freeze them overnight.
Give each player a bag with a frozen t-shirt. Each player must find creative ways to thaw the t-shirt, so they can put it on. The first player to put the
t-shirt on is the winner.
Lemon Roll
Divide players into equal teams of 2 or more. Teammates should be spaced about 20 feet apart. Each team will receive 1 lemon and 1 pencil.
The object of the game is to roll the lemon on the floor to the teammate across the room using only a pencil.
The lemon will wobble and rarely roll in a straight line. The first team to push the lemon back and forth 4 times is the winner.
Rumor Has It
Write a fictional story on a piece of paper about 3-4 sentences long. Make it more interesting by including guests in the story. The 1st player will whisper
the story to the second player, the second player will whisper the story to the third player and so on until the story has been shared with everyone. Once the
story has been shared with everyone, the last person will tell the story to the entire party.
Balloon Burst
This game will require a lot of space. Tie a string to a balloon and tie it to the leg of each guest. Leave about 10 - 16 inches of string on each balloon.
Each guest will try and pop the other guest's balloons. Once your balloon is popped, you are out of the game and cannot pop another guest's balloon. The last
person with an inflated balloon is the winner.
Scavenger Hunt
This is a great icebreaker game for adults and children. Give each group a list of items to locate during the scavenger hunt.
You can also request guests to bring some items to the party with them. Use your imagination. The
scavenger hunt area can be done inside and outside or can be limited to one area. Listed below are some sample items:
- Maryland state quarter
- red sock
- picture of a cat
- soda bottle cap
- restaurant take out menu
- rock shaped like a heart
- can of vegetables
The team with the most items checked off their list wins.
